My love of colours and texture in the world about me and the work of many artists profoundly influenced my work and it was thrilling to find that I could indulge it with clay, additives, glazes and the always exciting, often unexpected contribution of the firing process. It’s a collaboration with nature and fire that I try to keep largely under my control but also enjoying the spirit of independence in the other players.
The spirit of social rebellion is still there too, but I no longer feel that I have to point it out too carefully. I’m more than happy if the work is just seen as decorative. It’s message is still there, like the soldiers hidden inside the Trojan horse.
